If you're like us, you don't always want the same type of beer all the time, and the thought of brewing your own lovely ale is almost as good as a week in Vegas with an unlimited amount of cash! Here we present an answer that provides you with good beer, plentiful beer, and cheap beer. Brew your own and send us what you come up with when you're finished.

  1. First things first, buy your home brewing equipment
  2. Your basic homebrewing equipment is not all that expensive at all - You can probably get everything you need for about $150 bucks. Below is a list or items you'll need to be on your way to brewing heaven!

    1. Brewpot
    2. Primary fermenter
    3. Airlock and Stopper
    4. Plastic Hose
    5. Bottling Bucket
    6. Bottles
    7. Bottle Capper
    8. Thermometer
    9. Funnel and Strainer
    10. HouseHold Items

Now let us explain what we've learned from research what these items are used for in the beer making process.

    Brewpot

A brewpot is a huge pot made of stainless steel or enamel-coated metal which is of at least 16-quart capacity. This is where you will bring your initial mixture of malt extract, water and hops to a boil. Make sure to purchase an actual brew pot. You might have a huge pot at home already, but it's no good if it's made of aluminum or if it's a chipped enamelized pot. These will make the beer taste funny.

    Primary Fermenter

A fermenter is basically the vessel that can be used to contain the beer as it is being fermented. The primary fermenter must have a minimum capacity of 7 gallons, and a lid which seals airtight and accommodates the airlock and rubber stopper. You cannot just use any plastic bucket, you have to actually purchase one from a home brewers kit, and make sure it is of food grade quality. If not, you'll find yourself with some foil tasting beer that might actually make you sick.

    Airlock and Stopper

The airlock is a gadget which allows carbon dioxide to escape from your primary fermenter during fermentation, thus keeping it from exploding, but doesn't allow any of the bad air from outside to enter the fermenting process. It fits into a rubber stopper which has a hole drilled into it, and the stopper goes in the top of your primary fermenter. The stoppers are sized by number, so make sure you know what kind of stopper you are purchasing, or you'll find yourself with all the ingredients and no way to stop the air from getting inside!

    Plastic Hose

Used to transfer your beer from the fermenter into the empty beer bottles. Clear plastic tubing should suffice, although some brewers choose to purchase an auto-siphon. Make sure to keep it clean and clear of kinks and debris.

    Bottling Bucket

This is another large food grade bucket with a spigot at the bottom. It must be at least as large as your primary fermenter, because the liquid inside the fermenter will be poured into this device.

    Bottles

Yep, you guessed it, bottles. You can get these from any homebrewing kit as well, or you can buy in bulk online. Check out any of our affiliate links and you'll surely be directed on where to find all your home brewing kit needs!

    Bottle Capper

The best sort of bottle capper is one which can be affixed to a surface and worked with one hand while you hold the bottle with the other. There are also cheaper ones which require two hands on the capper, but these can be a pain in the butt. Again, you can get any of these supplies from any home brewing kit site.

    Thermometer

This is a thermometer which you can apply to the side of your primary fermenter. You can purchase these online, or actually go down to your local pet store and get one used for the aquarium.

    Funnel and Strainer

Funnel and the Strainer are used for transferring your golden brew from one container to another - Such as to the bottling bucket and then to your bottles.

    Household items

You will also need a small bowl, saucepan, Spatula, and mixing spoons.
Once you have these items, you're ready to go onto the next step!
